The TRX series of Radar Augmented Tow Targets is designed for use with any type of weapons system where acquisition, tracking, ranging, guidance and/or fuzing are radar dependent.
Key Features
- RCS configured to meet customer requirements, using cornes reflectors and /or luneberg lenses, up to 17 sq. meter at J band/ 10sq. meter at I/X band.
- Active radar augmentation, featuring adjustable RCS and wide ballistic coverage, is available
- Monostatic or bistatic return in linear or circular polarization
- Frequency-independent precision RCS available in passively-augmented TRX-14
- Generous payload capacity allows flexible configuration
- TRX series targets are available in tow configurations for military and commercial aircraft, sub-scale and full-scale drone aircraft, and in both one-way and two-way (recoverable) versions.
The TRX target series is designed for use with any gun or missile weapons system that requires a radar signature for acquisition, tracking, ranging, guidance and/or fuzing.
Augmentation is normally passive with the radar signature varied to meet customer requirements by the arrangement of lenses or reflectors.
When precision radar signatures are required, these are available within a wide range of bands. Cross section sizes are provided by either the TRX-1 4 passive precision target or through active augmentation. Ultra-small (stealth type) radar characteristics are also available.
Versions of this target are available for use with military and commercial aircraft as well as sub-scale and full size drone targets. Configurations offered include both one-way operation using Meggitt Defense Systems, LTC-2/6 launchers (up to 26,000 ft. tow length @ 200 KCAS) and two-way operation using MDS RM-30 reeling machines (up to 30,000 ft. @ 350 KCAS)
It can be flown from any aircraft capable of carrying external stores; commercial or military, and can also be flown from sub-scale or full-scale drone aircraft.
In the one-way configuration, pictured below, the TRX is fitted with an internally mounted tow reel.
This tow reel is mechanically controlled by the reel brake assembly which is designed to provide towline payout when the target is launched. The towline is released at the launcher when the mission is completed or the target is destroyed.
Weight of the target varies 12-20 kg. depending on configuration.
No specialized support equipment is required for the basic TRX target. The Meggitt Defense Systems' DHL Target Loading Mechanism and MTL Target Transporter are optional for target support during target buildup, transport and loading.
In summary, the TRX is an ideal target for use with weapons systems where radar augmentation is required for acquisition, tracking and/or fuzing.
