The TGX Light Augmented Tow Target is designed for use as a naval point defense target for guns, CIWS, missiles, or for any situation where long distance visual acquisition is required in addition to radar augmentation.

Key Features

  • Radar augmentation to 3.5 square meters at I/J (X) band (10GHz)
  • Nose-mounted 600,000 candlepower lamp visible to 10 kilometers in good conditions
  • Continuous on board electrical power provided by ram air turbine - eliminates batteries and can provide power for special payloads
  • Towbody made of bullet-survivable fiberglass with polyester resin
  • Compatible with all acoustical and doppler radar scoring systems
  • Generous payload capacity allows flexible configuration
  • Available in tow configurations for military and commercial aircraft, sub-scale and full-scale drone aircraft, and in both one-way and two-way (recoverable) versions.
  • Operationally proven, cost effective target used extensively by navies worldwide

The main feature of the TGX series targets is the ram air powered co-axially mounted lamp in a clear plexiglass nose cone which provides 600,000 candle power of light for visibility up to 10 kilometers in good conditions.

Weight of the target varies with configuration. The normal weight of the target without scoring or towline is 30 kilograms.

A proprietary I/J (X) band radar reflector is also co-axially mounted in front of the lamp to provide forward aspect radar augmentation to 3.5 square meters while allowing the light to shine through.

No specialized support is required for the basic TGX target. The Meggitt Defense Systems DHL Target Loading Mechanism and MTL Target Transponder are optional for target support during target buildup, transport and loading.

A 28-volt alternator is driven continuously by a ram air turbine located in the tail cone and provides power not only for the lamp, but for any special payloads such as scoring systems, active radar augmentation, missile seeker simulation, or EW packages.

In summary, the TGX is an ideal target for naval or ground weapon system use. It provides both radar augmentation and visual augmentation and supports virtually any user-desired scoring or electronic payload in a cost effective, proven package.

It can be flown from any commercial or military aircraft capable of carrying external stores. It can also be flown from sub-scale or full-scale drone aircraft.
