 Meggitt Defense Systems is a proud member of the government/industry team that was awarded the 1983 collier trophy for aeronautical excellence in the development of the Apache attack helicopter. Meggitt Defense Systems is the designer, developer, and producer of the Apache's "12 PAK" and loader/downloader.
The 12 PAK is a 1200-round, 30 mm linear linkless two-bay ammunition magazine that feeds the Boeing ordnance M230 chain gun at 600 shots per minute. The lightweight, cost-effective 12 PAK system has far exceeded its required reliability goal of 50,000 mean rounds between failure (MRBF).
 The loader/downloader is the Apache's ammunition ground support equipment that enables rapid turnaround of the AH-64's 30 mm area weapon system.
Meggitt Defense Systems also designed and developed the 30 mm bulk ammo strip packaging system, now in licensed production for the US Army.
The bulk ammo strip increases packaging efficiency by 53% while decreasing the packaging cost.
